Just on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 and barely a day after Agege deanery of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos hosted Alberione Institute of Communication Education (AICE), it was now the turn of Ikeja and Mainland Regions of the Church to entertain the Institute.
Led by Rev. Fr. Martin Obasi, the management of AICE were treated to another round of reception at the Macgovern hall of the expansive St. Agnes Catholic Church in Maryland, Ikeja area of Lagos State.
As part of this year’s priests reflection and spiritual exercise, Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Rt. Very Rev. Msgr. John Aniagwu, encouraged by the quality and content of AICE presentation on the open day which held on October 3, 2017 on the college premises, slated AICE to show case what it has for dioceses in their media education, where well over 50 priests attended.
AICE through Fr. Martin Obasi rolled out the objectives of the training programme and called on the priests of the two regions to key into the institute’s media programmes for the growth of the Church and the community.
He said the training and retraining of journalists and non-career journalists, liturgical functionaries, religious and the laity is to further improve on the mission of Jesus Christ as the greatest communicator of our time. He insists, the Catholic Church in Nigeria should leverage on the opportunity provided by the media college to preach Christ more than ever before and make him known to those still yet to be reached.
The project coordinator, Mr.Mike Echi later gave a breakdown of courses on offer including the professional diploma, certificate courses in electronic, print, and online journalism. He told the priests present to keep the doors of their respective parishes opened to further educate the people of God on the importance of the training and the need for them to become media literate in the global setting.
