SPICE Goes To the Village

Bandra : The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of SPICE for Women, Mumbai, conducted a seven-day community outreach programme for the first time in Talasari, an adopted village in Palghar district of Maharashtra from 3 to 9 December 2023. A total of 42 students from SPICE, accompanied by a few teachers, including Frs Sajith Cyriac and Renold Pascal, participated in the camp. The primary aim of the event was to acquaint the students with the array of activities carried out by the NSS unit and to inspire and invite them to become part of the NSS initiatives. Cleaning of the village roads, beautification of the school premises and its surrounding areas, creating awareness on cleanliness and personal hygiene through classes  and street plays were a few of the activities  carried out during the camp. Fr Sajith felt that the camp was an excellent platform for students who hail from the metropolitan cities like Mumbai to get to know the ground realities of the rural life. It also gave them the opportunity to hone their managerial and organizational skills as they themselves had to organize the various initiatives, food, accommodation, travels etc. For the NSS unit of SPICE, in every way it was an enlightening, enriching and challenging experience.
