Società Biblica Catholica Internazionale (SOBICAIN) / International Catholic Biblical Society was founded in Alba in 1924 by Fr James Alberione and was approved by the Holy See on 14 October 1960.
The scope and the aim of SOBICAIN as was defined by the Alberionian Statutes prepared by Fr Alberione himself and the Papal Document with which it was approved is as follows: To propose to all, believers and non-believers, the biblical text, presenting it so that all people discover God’s plan of salvation and they can access the same faith professed by the Apostles or to grow in Christian life. It will pay special attention to those who are far from the faith, socially and economically marginalized and those in mission territories. During the last sixty years of its services, millions of copies of the Bible in different languages of the world have been produced and distributed, especially in the Spanish speaking countries. It has assisted and accompanied the translation process of many new editions of the entire Bible, New Testament, Old Testament, Gospels, Letters of St Paul etc. One of the latest initiatives of SOBICAIN is an Arab Bible in preparation which is scheduled to be released later in October this year.
SOBICAIN is one of the living testimonies of Blessed Alberione’s passion for the Word of God and his commitment to reach the same ‘throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth’.
